"You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did."

James 2:22 NIV

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  We praise the Lord God for all He is doing in our lives and in the ministry here in Peru, for filling us with His Holy Spirit to guide and direct each of our steps, and for pouring out His grace upon us through His precious Son, Jesus Christ. We hope and pray that He has been blessing you wonderfully during this past month and that your life has been filled with His glorious riches and mercy.  We want to give you a special thanks for your continued prayers for us and support of the ministry in Peru.  We definitely see the results of your prayers for us and for the ministry here.  You are special people called by our Lord Jesus Christ to minister to His children.  Thank you for your faithfulness to His calling.  Thank you for your love for Him, for us, and for His children.

The Lord Jesus has continued to bless us in the ministry during September.  We were able to see how the Lord Jesus continues to work through our weaknesses, if we are willing to just go.  Arthur had the privilege of working with a team of six from Asbury UMC in Madison, Alabama, and SIL Bible translators Terry and Carla Smith in a literacy workshop among the Quechua Panoa people.  This team, without being able to speak the Quechua Panoa language,  was used by the Lord to help the folks in Tambillo begin to read their own language.  Believe it or not, our inability to speak the language is exactly what the people need to encourage them in their reading.  As we butchered their language trying to read it to them, they realized that they could recognize the words.  As we would try to read, they would help us to pronounce the words correctly.  By helping us they begin to read for themselves, and our inability was used to encouraged them to begin to read the words with the correct pronunciations.  Terry Smith indicated that the translation of the New Testament into Quechua Panoa will probably be finished in approximately two years, so this literacy process is very important.

This trip was blessed in another way, also.  Arthur was able to make some contacts that may prove to be fruitful in the future for church planting efforts among the Quechua Panoa.  One of Arthur's associates lives in this region and may be a great benefit in helping to establish indigenous church plants.  We are also working with Terry and Carla Smith to evaluate the possibility of using the discipleship ministry in this region to help with this purpose.  If it appears to be a possibility, we might have the opportunity to translate these materials into the Quechua Panoa language for use in this region. It seems as though the Lord Jesus is establishing a possible team for this purpose made of  Asbury UMC, Mission Society missionaries, and SIL associates.  Please be in prayer for these possibilities and opportunities to further extend the Kingdom of Jesus Christ into this region.

We were also blessed to have a team from Riverstone Wesleyan Fellowship to come and work closely with our prayer ministry.  This team of thirteen helped us with several different prayer initiatives.  We had several prayer outings to areas that we had previously identified as places where human sacrifices had been performed throughout the history of Huancayo and to places where pagan worship is still very strong.  We were able to prayer for pastors and their families, which resulted in great encouragement for them and their families to continue in their ministries.  Times of healing prayer were offered for those who wished to receive it, also.  We saw people set free from burdens of depression and unforgiveness, restoration of families damaged by abuse, and other types of spiritual freedom brought to peoples lives.  The team also presented talks on Sexual Purity for three evenings. The time spent with the team strengthened our prayer warriors in their resolve for their ministry here in Huancayo.

Arthur had a chance to preach to a crowd in a an outdoor evangelism event in Cullpa Bajo.  He shared a basic Gospel presentation and many prayed to receive Christ.  This is one of the same areas in which the team from Riverstone had prayed earlier in the month.  It is also an area known for its high incidence of rapes and a place where bones of children have been discovered.  Arthur, also had an opportunity to share a presentation on Sexual Purity with the youth in the Casa de Oracion - Quechua church in Chilca.

Mary Alice has continued to teach English in the Colegio El Camino, where the children attend school.  We have begun to see some positive changes in the students and the school environment.  Several of the students and one of the teachers and his wife are now participating in one of the discipleship groups.  One of the students, Hugo, recently shared his testimony during the chapel time about how the Lord Jesus had forgiven him, restored him, and healed his body.

Our partner ministry, Mision-AMEN, was able to acquire the initial 9.5 acres of land with an option to purchase an additional 2.5 acres in the future that will be used in the development of a project for agricultural production and ministry support.  The project will be designed to provide jobs in the community and income to help sustain the church plants and mission work in the surrounding valley.  A center for missionary training is also part of the project plan.  The acquisition of the land will allow us to proceed to the final design stages and start more detailed crop production studies.  The land is already being used to produce its first crops, while the rest of the project is developed. We are praying that the Lord Jesus Christ, will call a number of construction and evangelism teams to work with us on this project during the next several years.  Please pray for Arthur and Roli as they do the site investigation and final design work on the project.  Please pray that the Lord would begin to raise up teams to help with this project.

Please continue to be in prayer for the continued growth in the ministries here in Peru, especially in the Canta Valley, Huancayo, Palcazu, Pelmaz, Bermudez, Shiringamazu,  Sambillo Alto, Rio Azul Ugarteche, San Augustine, KM 40 and Tinahuani.  Also, pray for the ministries in Huancayo, especially the Colegio El Camino. Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to awaken and change hearts among the young adults of Huancayo.  Please give praise to the Lord for bringing us additional persons called to be part of the missionary team in Peru.  Covenant with us to continue in prayer for the young adult leadership team and their continued ministry to the spiritually lost and dying youth of Huancayo.  Please pray for the leaders of  the churches in Peru, and for their spiritual protection and growth in the Lord Jesus.  Also be in prayer for Obed and Cynthia Alvarez, the head of Mision-AMEN, as well as their other leaders and missionaries.  Please pray for our safety as we travel, and that we will boldly speak God's Word wherever we go.

We pray that God is drawing you closer and closer to Him every day. God bless you.  We love you.

  Yours in Christ,

Arthur, Mary Alice, Benjamin, Joshua, and Mary Beth Ivey
