"He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.”  Galatians 3:14 NIV

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  We praise the Lord God for all He is doing in our lives and in the ministry here in Peru, for filling us with His Holy Spirit to guide and direct each of our steps, and for pouring out His grace upon us through His precious Son, Jesus Christ. We hope and pray that He has been blessing you wonderfully during this past month and that your life has been filled with His glorious riches and mercy.  We want to give you special thanks for your continued prayers for us and support of the ministry in Peru.  We definitely see the results of your prayers for us and for the ministry here.  You are special people called by our Lord Jesus Christ to minister to His children.  Thank you for your faithfulness to His calling.  Thank you for your love for Him, for us, and for His children.

The first week in September found us back in the jungle.  A team of three from Riverstone Wesleyan Fellowship, Dick and Judy Gabriel and Steve Egan, came to help us with the construction of the church-discotheque in Palcazu.  The church there is still in the early stages of formation and is called Sweeter than Honey.  The team helped us to construct the floor, walls, and roof structure for the stage and pastor’s house.  They also provided discipleship teachings each night to the small church group in the house of Pastor Mario Sillo.  We saw the Lord Jesus move in the lives of different individuals through the teaching and prayer.

On October 23, we will be sending two national missionaries from the Escuela Misioloica Latino America (EMLA) to work with Mario and Pablo Paredes in Bermudez and Palcazu.  One of these missionaries is Miguel Chavez who has been in the discipleship program in Huancayo.  They will be working with Mario and Pablo to establish discipleship groups in both Bermudez and Palcazu and to help in evangelism in both areas.  The local churches in Bermudez, El Nuevo Onda, and Palcazu, Mas Dulce que la Miel, will be providing food and lodging for these workers.  Arthur will be providing the transportation costs.

Edwin Gonzales has been working closely with Arthur to prepare for the return of the missionary team to the jungle area of Iscosazin on October 23, also.  The team will be continuing the discipleship work in the seven areas around Iscosazin.  The team will consist of five national missionaries from EMLA, Edwin, and two local workers, Enrique y Bernardo.  One of these missionaries, Hayde Mayhuire, and Edwin will be married on October 20 and have committed to work with Arthur for two years to continue to establish the work in the region of Iscosazin and to help develop a mission center there. Arthur is currently providing the support for these national missionaries, but as we are able to develop a mission center in Iscoszin, we hope to be able to create projects that will provide part of the support needed, and hopefully will self-sustain the work in this area.  The discipleship groups that currently exist are not able to support the work monetarily, but do give offerings of some food products that they produce such as yucca and bananas.

Pastor Alberto Fernandez traveled to Huanuco to help the new discipleship groups there get off to a strong start.  He and the workers there, Manuel Villar, Rafael Sanchez, and Pablo Villogas, visited seven different areas, sharing the vision for the discipleship work.  Through the discipleship process, we hope to develop workers to help us spread the Gospel to places in this region where no churches presently exist.  There are currently 120 folks in 8 groups meeting in this region.

The discipleship ministry has continued to grow and we now have a little over 900 folks involved.  Our oldest groups have entered the last phase of the program.  As this phase is completed these groups will transition into open groups that will be used to evangelize and receive new Christians into the body of Christ.  Once this process is started the growth of the discipleship ministry should accelerate.  This process should begin the spring of 2008.

We have been working to develop income to sustain the ministry from sources here in Peru, but we have a long way to go.  We have a small soft drink bottling plant in the jungle that helps to support the work there and we are in the process of trying to design and build additional machinery that would increase our production by at least four fold.  We have the rights to print and sell some of our discipleship literature and are pursuing contracts with Christian book stores in Huancayo and Lima.  We are also pursuing rights to print the other literature that we now use, which would reduce our cost.  Many of our discipleship groups are giving offerings to help us defray the costs of the ministry.  As opportunities arise we will continue to pursue projects that create income from Peruvian sources to sustain the ministries.

Currently, Arthur and Mary Alice are the only source of support for these ministries.  They must raise all of the funding.  During the last two months prices of almost all products in Peru have increased by approximately 20%.  In addition, the dollar has lost approximately 8% of its value here.  This change in the economy and the growth of the ministry are straining our budget.

If you feel called by the Lord Jesus to help us financially, you can send your gifts made payable to “The Mission Society” and designated Ivey Support 254/IA to:

Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to awaken and change hearts among the young adults of Huancayo.  Please give praise to the Lord for bringing us additional persons called to be part of the missionary team in Peru.  Covenant with us to continue in prayer for the young adult leadership team and their continued ministry to the spiritually lost and dying youth of Huancayo.  Please pray for the leaders of the churches in Peru, and for their spiritual protection and growth in the Lord Jesus.  Also be in prayer for Obed and Cynthia Alvarez, the head of NEWMA (Mision-AMEN), as well as their other leaders and missionaries.  Please pray for our safety as we travel, and that we will boldly speak God's Word wherever we go.

We pray that God is drawing you closer and closer to Him every day. God bless you.  We love you.

  Yours in Christ,
