"May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."

John 17:23 NIV

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  We praise the Lord God for all He is doing in our lives and in the ministry here in Peru, for filling us with His Holy Spirit to guide and direct each of our steps, and for pouring out His grace upon us through His precious Son, Jesus Christ. We hope and pray that He has been blessing you wonderfully during this past month and that your life has been filled with His glorious riches and mercy.  We want to give you a special thanks for your continued prayers for us and support of the ministry in Peru.  We definitely see the results of your prayers for us and for the ministry here.  You are special people called by our Lord Jesus Christ to minister to His children.  Thank you for your faithfulness to His calling.  Thank you for your love for Him, for us, and for His children.

August has been a very exciting and amazing month.  We started the month by sending a short term team made up of youth and young adults from Huancayo to Shiringamazu to do follow-up after the medical mission in July.  This team of twelve visited the three different areas of Shiringamazu, Pueblo Libre, Progreso and San Luis, sharing testimonies, conducting children's ministries and evangelizing.   This was the first time that most of the team members had been on a mission trip, especially in a cross cultural setting.  The jungle environment and culture are radically different than the mountain environment and culture from which our team came. As the Lord Jesus always does, He touched their lives and opened their eyes to a work and kingdom far greater and broader than many had ever imagined.  They came home changed as well as having been able to touch and change lives in Shiringamazu.

Luis and Genaro returned to Shiringamazu for two additional weeks to begin discipleship ministries.  They began our small group discipleship ministry in the three communities of Shiringamamzu starting with the 20 new believers that were baptized during the medical mission.  Many people began to receive a new freedom in Jesus Christ and the number in discipleship quickly grew to 45 persons.  Eight additional persons gave their life to the Lord and were baptized during this two week period, and many others recommitted their lives to the Lord, including the community chief, Jorge Ochoa.  Regular church meetings were started in all three communities.  Genaro and Luis will be going back for three more weeks in October to continue the discipleship work that they have started.  Please be in prayer for this ministry and the community of Shiringamazu.  Pray especially that the Lord would raise up and equip spiritual leaders that can maintain the work for the long term.

The Lord Jesus continues to bless the discipleship group ministry.  We had our trimester reunion of the small group members with over 190 in attendance.  The praise and worship time lasted three hours without anyone hardly noticing the time.  Several pastors and folks from different ministries participated.  The sense of unity was tremendous, and in fact, it was so strong that the owners of the recreation area were deeply moved even though they were not Christians, and were grateful that we had brought such a blessing to their place.

Arthur and Mary Alice had an opportunity to share in the Quechua church, Casa de Oracion.  The young people of this church have been involved in the discipleship ministry and are ready to start a number of new groups.  We have an opportunity in partnership with Compassion International to evangelize and disciple 200 non-Christian families that are supported by Compassion International in this region.  In order to do this each of our 40 workers from this church will have to commit to lead two discipleship groups, and we will have the challenge of trying to provide literature for around 1000 persons.  Please pray with us that the Lord will open the doors and give us a way to take on this challenge.

Please continue to be in prayer for the continued growth in the ministries here in Peru, especially in the Canta Valley, Huancayo, Palcazu, Pelmaz, Bermudez, Shiringamazu,  Sambillo Alto, Rio Azul Ugarteche, San Augustine, KM 40 and Tinahuani.  Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to awaken and change hearts among the young adults of Huancayo.  Please give praise to the Lord for bringing us additional persons called to be part of the missionary team in Peru.  Covenant with us to continue in prayer for the young adult leadership team and their continued ministry to the spiritually lost and dying youth of Huancayo.  Please pray for the leaders of  the churches in Peru, and for their spiritual protection and growth in the Lord Jesus.  Also be in prayer for Obed and Cynthia Alvarez, the head of Mision-AMEN, as well as their other leaders and missionaries.  Please pray for our safety as we travel, and that we will boldly speak God's Word wherever we go.

We pray that God is drawing you closer and closer to Him every day. God bless you.  We love you.

  Yours in Christ,

Arthur, Mary Alice, Benjamin, Joshua, and Mary Beth Ivey
