“Run your best in the race of faith, and win eternal life for yourself, for it was to this life that God called you when you firmly professed your faith before many witnesses.1 Timothy 6:12  Today’s English Version

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  We praise the Lord God for all He is doing in our lives and in the ministry here in Peru, for filling us with His Holy Spirit to guide and direct each of our steps, and for pouring out His grace upon us through His precious Son, Jesus Christ. We hope and pray that He has been blessing you wonderfully during this past month and that your life has been filled with His glorious riches and mercy.  We want to give you special thanks for your continued prayers for us and support of the ministry in Peru.  We definitely see the results of your prayers for us and for the ministry here.  You are special people called by our Lord Jesus Christ to minister to His children.  Thank you for your faithfulness to His calling.  Thank you for your love for Him, for us, and for His children.

In August, we had the privilege of doing a medical campaign in a small village called Posoconi with Roswell United Methodist Church and Cynthia Alvarez and several national missionaries of NEWMA.  Even though there were many spiritual attacks, 513 people of 1296 that received attention, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.  This is about 40% of the people, which is higher than the norm of 25% to 30%. The mayor of Posoconi had a nice ceremony for the team the last day of the campaign, and each person received a medallion. Please pray that God will give wisdom to Cosme Menendez and Filiberto Lima, the national missionaries that are responsible for the work in this area, as they organize and do the follow-up with these new believers.

Edwin and Haydee, the leaders of the work in Iscosazin, returned from the jungle recently with some very good news.  The men who participated in the Leadership Retreat in May have been changing the way that they treat their wives and their family. In the past, when they had to go on business trips, they would stay away from their families for a long time, but now they only go away for 3-4 days at a time, and they make sure that the needs of their families are provided for before they leave.  Also, their wives are happy because their husbands are showing them greater respect and loyalty than before.  This shows how powerful the Word of God is, because it changes people’s lives.  There are now 55 persons in 9 groups in 5 communities.  These same local leaders are working in three other communities to restore and rebuild a Christian work in these communities.  Please continue to pray for these leaders, as they disciple others.

Unfortunately this month, we lost a precious brother and principal pastor that was in charge of the work in Palcazu.  Mario Sillo was run over by a mototaxi in Palcazu, and died Sunday, August 30th.  Mario received Christ in the medical campaign that we had in 2005, and the Lord Jesus Christ touched his heart to become a leader and worker in this area.  He was a very humble and sweet man that loved Jesus. He owned his own bakery, and supported his family and the ministry in this way.  There is no doubt that Mario ran the race of faith and that he has eternal life and is  with the Lord Jesus , but it will not be easy for the children and Flor to lose such a godly man. Please pray for Flor and the children, and that the work in Palcazu will continue to grow and that the Lord Jesus will call others to be a part of it.

We praise God because the work in Huanaco has continued to grow. There are now 14 discipleship groups in Huanaco, with 164 participants, 19 groups in Pachitea with 268  participants, and 1 group in Ambo with 34 participants.  We have held two leadership workshops in this area and have trained 31 leaders, several of whom are bilingual Spanish – Quchua Panao speakers.   Please pray that God will continue changing lives in a mighty way among these people, and that more and more people with come to know the Lord Jesus.

Our son, Benjamin, just finished with his first two weeks of classes at Georgia Tech.  He is enjoying it, but it is a big adjustment for him.  Please pray that he can continue to keep a good balance in his life with his time with God, with his studies, and with his exercise.

Please be in prayer for each one of our workers and for each one of the ministries and projects, the discipleship ministry, the evangelism and church planting ministry, the prayer ministry, and the work to self sustain these ministries.  Please continue to pray for financial support for the ministries both from Peruvian sources and U.S. sources.  Please continue to be in prayer for the continued growth in the ministries in the Canta Valley, Palcazu, Pelmaz,

Bermudez, Shiringamazu, Villa América, Iscosazin, Huánuco, Panao, Molinos, Ambo, Acamayo, Tinahuani, Puno, San Martín de Pango, San Ramón, and Puente Paucartambo.  Also, pray for the ministries in Huancayo, especially the Friday night Prayer and evangelism ministry, the Colegio El Camino and the Jesus El Maestro High School.  Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to awaken and change hearts among the young adults of Huancayo.  Please give praise to the Lord for bringing us additional persons called to be part of the missionary team in Peru.  Covenant with us to continue in prayer for the young adult leadership team and their continued ministry to the spiritually lost and dying youth of Huancayo.  Please pray for the leaders of the churches in Peru, and for their spiritual protection and growth in the Lord Jesus.  Also be in prayer for Obed and Cynthia Alvarez, the head of NEWMA, as well as their other leaders and national missionaries.  Please pray for our safety as we travel, and that we will boldly speak God's Word wherever we go.

We pray that God is drawing you closer and closer to Him every day. God bless you.  We love you.

  Yours in Christ,

Arthur, Mary Alice, Benjamin, Joshua, and Mary Beth Ivey
